2022 is coming to a close, and what a year it’s been! Between attending conferences, forging new business partnerships, growing our presence in the micromobility, public sector, and AV industries, adding new positions to our team, and expanding our mapping coverage, we’ve been busy at GeoMate!
We wanted to take a minute to reflect on this past year, sharing our successes with you – the people who helped make it happen! – and building upon them in 2023 and beyond.
Our year was off to a fresh new start with a rebrand. After hiring in our marketing and design department in 2021, we launched our new website.
We had plans to attend CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in-person, but due to COVID lockdowns we participated online. (We’re excited to finally be attending CES in person in the new year – more on this down below!).
In February, our co-founder & CTO Nastaran Saberi was a guest speaker on a webinar about geomatics in the real world through the University of Waterloo.
And in March, we moved to a new home base – a huge trek from uptown Waterloo all the way to downtown Kitchener. We’re now based out of the original Communitech location, and we’re loving it!
Speaking of Communitech, they featured a pilot project that we partnered on last year, looking at whether whether 5G improves accuracy & latency in HD mapping.
In April, our CEO & cofounder Amin Gharebaghi was featured in GRIT’s newsletter: The Relentless Pursuit of Entrepreneurship. He speaks to starting a business, how GeoMate was born, and his advice for entrepreneurs just starting out.
We spoke about using HD maps to build better cities at the Good Roads Conference, and we had a booth at Collision Conference, both in Toronto.
In July, our team headed to San Diego for the Esri User Conference to make lasting connections & meet some of our Esri friends in-person.
And when September hit, we went ‘back to school,’ participating in the SheBoot business bootcamp & pitch competition. We learned so much from business & marketing experts, and we made some lasting connections.
Also in September, we attended the AutoTech Conference in San Francisco!
Using our HD maps, client Magna International piloted their new autonomous delivery robot. They’re now out there delivering real pizzas to real humans!
And – in big, exciting news – we’re the newest Esri partner! We’ll be making an exclusive announcement in our e-newsletter in the new year – sign up to receive this super important update.
Stay tuned for a few exciting updates coming early 2023 – including our attendance at CES 2023, in person this time around! (Want to connect at CES? Shoot us a message!).
We’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished this year – and we couldn’t have done it without you. We’d especially like to thank Communitech: we’re so grateful for our workspace as well as all of the resources and opportunities that they provide.
We’d also, of course, like to thank all of you. Your support means the world to us.
So from the bottom of our hearts: happy holidays. Thank you for you for sticking with us as we endeavour to drive safe, sustainable, inclusive, and innovative urban mobility.
With gratitude,
The GeoMate Team
